Nebraska has real chess history, too — Bobby Fischer competed in the U.S. Open when it was hosted in Omaha in 1949 and 1959, and again in Lincoln in 1969 and 1975. The annual Hall of Fame Chess Celebration continues that legacy, inducting new members each June and drawing former state and national champions back to the board.
A friendly, welcoming community meeting every Wednesday, 7:00–10:00 PM, at West Hills Church in Omaha. Open to all ages and skill levels, with free lessons, casual games, and rated tournaments. Also competes in the Nebraska Team Chess League.

University of Nebraska Chess Club
A student-run community meeting every Thursday, 6:00–9:00 PM, at the Nebraska Union in Lincoln. Open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public. Competes in the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship, the top college chess event in the Americas.
